We are pleased to announce that the eighth international conference on the Inspiration of Astronomical Phenomena (INSAP VIII), “City of Stars,” co-sponsored by the American Museum of Natural History, the New York Academy of Sciences, and NYSkies Astronomy, Inc. It will be held at the American Museum of Natural History, NYC, from Sunday, July 7 through Friday July 12, 2013. This interdisciplinary conference will explore humanity’s fascination with the sky, a strong and sometimes dominant element in human culture—with emphasis on how this influence has reached demographics (especially people in cities) where one would not otherwise find the occasion to look up. Scholars from multiple disciplines, including the humanities and sciences, as well the arts, are invited to present and discuss their work on the cultural impact and inspiration of astronomical phenomena, from a historical or contemporary perspective. The list of topics discussed at previous INSAP conferences is available at the INSAP web site.
